Clutching at Grudges
The true self does not have hands to hold a grudge
it won’t cling to what is long gone
only the ego can
only the ego can
feed on past suffering with its claws deep in the past
firmly grabbing that smouldering grudge
burnt fingers carrying it through the centuries
ghosts from the past ruling the present
injecting themselves into intimate interactions
undermining connections
tainting trust
we give power to our past — we can also take it away
utilising our memories without attachment
as our advisors
learning the lesson
and letting go
Third Version — 18.03.2024
The grudge
The true self doesn’t hold a grudge
the true self doesn’t hold on to the past
only personhood can
give life to the past
to hold the grudge
use your memories
only as that — memories
without attachment
as your advisor
learn your lesson
and let go
Second Version — 26.01.2022
The Grudge
The true self doesn’t hold a grudge
the true self doesn’t hold on to the past
only personhood can hold on the past
and give it life
to hold a grudge
use your memories
but only as that
memories
without attachment
learn your lesson
and let go
